Who we are
We’re a team driven by the belief that we can radically change the world of work. We believe – and hear from our customers every day – that when an organisation understands itself better it can create more fulfilling jobs, and grow in ways never before imagined.
Enterprises big and small trust our products to provide visibility and clarity in areas once characterised by hearsay and uncertainty. With the insights delivered by Peakon, these organisations become more agile, responsive, and able to make the changes and investments that their employees care about most.
We’re in the business of creating great places to work, so it should be no surprise that this is our highest priority at Peakon. With ambitions as big as ours, we see individual growth and development as the key strategy for growing our business.
Trust and transparency guide everything we do here. You’ll find an open salary model, unlimited vacation, minimal hierarchy, and maximum freedom to develop and execute your own ideas. Our style of collaboration is based on honesty and friendship, and we always love making new friends.
As the Peakon engineering team grows, we are looking for an experienced engineering leader to take on the role of Engineering Director in London. The majority of the existing engineering team is based in our Copenhagen office, and your key imperative will be to expand the team to have a significant presence in our London office by the end of your first year at the company. This will include hiring, on-boarding, growing and supporting all new and current team members. You will eventually have both engineers and engineering managers reporting to you, across multiple cross-functional product teams. You will be responsible for the overall execution of the product vision by your team, and work closely with them to prioritize efforts, facilitate collaboration, and remove obstacles in order to deliver a product of the highest quality in time.
You will be reporting directly to the Peakon CTO, working closely with them to define overall engineering strategy and staying ahead of technical and organization challenges. You will be part of the engineering leadership team and collaborate with other directors and managers to allocate resources and plan for long term technical and team needs.
As an Engineering Director, you will work closely with department leaders across the business, as well as senior management, to provide technical guidance and support.
Who you are
You are an engineer at heart, with a genuine interest in technology and people. You prefer the challenge, and reward, of working with a team towards a common goal, rather than trying to reach it alone.
As a leader, you value trust, transparency and accountability. You are passionate about leading an inclusive and diverse team and set them up for success. You are able to clearly communicate expectations, and are quick to recognize when someone goes above and beyond to deliver a great result.
In addition to coaching your reports, you will focus on improving processes and tooling across the engineering team, to foster knowledge sharing, innovation and resilience in the rapidly changing environment of a growing company. You are able to balance requirements from multiple outside stakeholders, while maintaining a positive work environment. You are a great communicator, and are able to clearly articulate how processes and structures can support the team’s everyday work.
You have a keen sense of business and are able to communicate effectively with other departments on engineering related topics.
Our ideal candidate has...
- Multiple years of leadership experience managing both individual contributors and managers
- Experience working with small-to-medium size cross-functional teams in an agile environment
- Experience recruiting and scaling teams in a sustainable way
- Experience in budgeting/forecasting for future team growth and resource needs
- Experience designing and implementing complex web applications
- Empathetic and open-minded, able to adapt your leadership style to the individual and task at hand
- A strong sense of how tooling, best practices and process can support and empower engineers in delivering software
- Values developer productivity and automation to support iterative product development
- Detail-oriented, with a high bar for quality software and user experience
- Self-organising and process-oriented
- Is a team player who strives to better not only themselves, but also everyone around them
- Professional experience working as a software engineer
We welcome your application even if you do not meet all of the criteria listed above, but are excited about the challenge of mastering this role. We know that skills are not static and growth is continuous, so we are excited to help you take your career to the next level at Peakon.
We make it a priority to stay on the cutting edge of tech. We are highly motivated by learning and growing in our roles, and constantly evolving is a key part of that.
We rely heavily on automated testing on all levels of the application, with thousands of tests checking every commit to our code base. We use CircleCI for hosted continuous integration to make sure our most recent changes are always available to test, and we deploy code to our production environment on a daily basis.
